Product characteristic:
1. Lufenuron is used to control flea populations in dogs and cats. Lufenuron is commonly combined with other drugs for various flea prevention medications.
Control of insect parasites, such as fleas, can be achieved by a number of approaches. One of the most novel methods is the use of insect growth regulators. These drugs arrest the development of insect parasites while demonstrating great safety when administered to animals.
2. Lufenuron has been successfully used against many lepidopteran pests due to its classic larvicidal effect along with transovarial–ovicidal and ovicidal effects. It has low toxicity against many parasitoids and has adequate persistence making it effective on many pests. In New Zealand, both pre- and post-harvest control against the Tortricid, the light brown apple moth, Epiphyas postvittana, was initially achieved by tebufenozide and an organophosphate. But the insects soon developed cross resistance to the organophosphate, which has been since then successfully replaced by lufenuron
Mode of action: Lufenuron belongs to a class of drugs known as insect development inhibitors/insect growth regulators and the formal class is called “Chitin synthesis Inhibitor”.
Lufenuron inhibits insect development within the insect egg. This prevents the egg from maturing to an adult insect. Lufenuron is most commonly administered for flea control in dogs and in cats. It does not control ticks.
Target pests & Usage:
Lufenuron, a benzoylurea pesticide, inhibits the production of chitinin insects. Without chitin, a larval flea will never develop a hard outer shell (exoskeleton). With its inner organs exposed to air, the insect dies from dehydration soon after hatching or molting (shedding its old, smaller shell).[citation needed]
Lufenuron is also used to fight fungal infections, since fungus cell walls are about one third chitin.
Lufenuron is also used as an agricultural pesticide for use against lepidopterans, eriophid mites, and western flower thrips. It is an effective antifungal in plants.
